When overflow incontinence is diagnosed, it is most important to first search for the cause of the incontinence problem. If the drainage of urine is being blocked by an enlarged prostate or a tumor, surgical interference on the urethra may be neccessary. If overflow incontinence is due to a disorder of the sphincter, treatment with pharmaceuticals has also proven successful. This will ensure the muscles relax and urine may flow out of the bladder more easily.
